How To Wash Your NHL Hockey Jersey

How To Wash Your NHL Hockey Jersey

FOLLOW OUR GUIDE TO KEEP YOUR JERSEYS LOOKING PRISTINE!

Your jerseys can cost a lot of money and you’ll want to do as much as possible to protect them! Here are a few tips to keep your CoolHockey NHL Jersey in mint condition.

These tips apply to jerseys that have casual wear and no major food stains before washing, if you have a nasty stain it's always best to consult the jersey hang-tag located on the bottom right inside your jersey for more specific instructions.

To ensure your NHL jersey stays looking its best and preserves its logos, patches and customization, here's the best way to wash it. *(Results may vary depending on multiple factors)

General Rule of Thumb: Less is More (and Cold & Gentle are Key!)

Machine Wash (Gentle Cycle)

  1. Turn Inside Out: This is the most crucial step! Turning the jersey inside out protects the logo, numbers, names, and any patches from rubbing and peeling during the wash cycle.

  2. Use Cold Water: Always wash in cold water. Hot water can cause shrinking, fading, and can damage heat-pressed letters & numbers.

  3. Use a Mild Detergent: Opt for a gentle, colour-safe detergent. Avoid harsh chemicals, bleach, or detergents with fabric softeners as these can break down the adhesives and materials used in customization.

  4. Select Gentle Cycle: Use the "delicate" or "gentle" cycle on your washing machine.

  5. Wash Separately or with Similar Colours/Delicates: To prevent colour bleeding or snagging from other garments (like jeans with zippers), wash the jersey by itself or with other light-coloured delicates.

  6. Skip the Fabric Softener: Fabric softener can break down the adhesives in applied graphics and and can sometimes leave a residue.

Drying: The Most Important Step!

This is where many people damage their jerseys!

  • AIR DRY ONLY! This is non-negotiable for jerseys with any kind of heat-pressed names, numbers, or patches.

  • Lay Flat: Lay the jersey flat on a clean, dry towel or a mesh drying rack.

  • Hang (Carefully): If hanging, use a wide, padded hanger to prevent stretching, especially around the shoulders and neck. Hang it in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight or heat.

  • NEVER put your jersey in the dryer. The high heat will cause the customization (especially heat-pressed vinyl or twill) to crack, peel, bubble, or melt.

KEY TIPS!

  • DO NOT Bleach.

  • DO NOT Dry Clean.

  • DO NOT Iron directly on graphics/customization. If you must iron the fabric, turn the jersey inside out and use the lowest possible heat setting. It's best to avoid ironing altogether.

  • DO NOT Wring or Twist.

  • DO NOT use harsh stain removers directly on graphics.

By following these steps, your NHL jerseys will stay in excellent condition for many seasons to come!
